Don’t just offset—Reduce!
The solar industry has always been about solar electric panels. Got a big monthly usage? Just put a bunch of solar panels on the roof. But now, in cooperation with several other solar industries, Renewable Solar Energy is working on a solution. Integrated systems that all use the power of the sun in different ways to reduce your monthly usage—and then solar electric systems to eliminate what’s left.
We’re very excited about the possibilities these projects create—come and ask us at our Farmers Market booths, or keep checking the website! - RATE HIKE UPDATE! Effective September 1st, PG&E raised electricity rates for all users who are in the “Upper Tier” of electric usage. “Upper Tier” includes anyone who uses 131% or more of their baseline rate. Edison and others are likely to follow. The “Upper Tier” charge was 35 cents per Kilowatt Hour, but is being raised 3 cents - bringing your power cost up to 38 cents per Kilowatt Hour. This price increase is equivalent to a $190 charge for over-base electricity in many homes. Furthermore, utilities like PG&E and SCE will be presenting their triennial “General Case” to the Public Utilities Commission.
This is when all the publicly traded utilities justify their increasing prices in terms of cost of fuels, transmission, maintenance, and other costs. When the PUC approves their claims of higher operating costs, the rates will go up again. The complete article from the Sacramento Bee can be found here.
